This is a short and pithy blog post about why you should go and watch Jack the Giant Slayer on Blu-Ray, many times over. Why must we watch it? Well, for one thing, this movie was released in 2013 and yet we're still talking about it — that's always a good sign for quality! And also because it's such an incredibly special film (for me anyway). Jack the Giant Slayer is the type of movie where you find yourself super engaged with what's going on — little surprises pop up unexpectedly throughout to keep you engaged; there are plot twists; and the overall story isn't resolved. You'll be hard pressed to find a movie that ends as beautifully as this one; we understand as much as we ever will, and yet there is still mystery. Like life itself. I was fortunate enough to win a competition hosted by Warner Bros for this particular Blu-Ray, and it arrived on my doorstep earlier today — this is the first time I've watched it since the cinema; I'm glad I waited until now. – The Art of Jack the Giant Slayer So, let's continue with what I'd call my Case For Bluray. Creating a Blu-Ray is an art unto itself. There are many different philosophies on how films are to be handled, and the old adage, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!" doesn't apply here. This film is of high quality, so Warner Bros have created a special edition which will stand up well to even professional scrutiny. They've managed this because they have taken what makes the 2D version of this film so special — its long takes and intimate character moments — and extended these into this Blu-Ray release. This is a Blu-Ray for big-screen viewing, and it's meant to be seen on a big screen. In particular, one should be sure to have HD surround sound setup to take full advantage of this release. Jack the Giant Slayer has been designed from the ground up as a spectacle for the home cinema audience. This Blu-Ray disc is a deluxe edition, meaning that not only does it come with two discs — one Blu-ray and one DVD — but it also comes with loads of extras that will provide hours of entertainment. Documentary material is fascinating, and this release has a whole bunch of it! But the best part is, if you love this movie as much as I do, you'll find yourself re-watching it so often that the extras will be watched many times over. Something else I'd like to mention — and this doesn't apply specifically to the Bluray — is that Jack the Giant Slayer was nominated for Best Science Fiction/Fantasy and Visual Effects and did not win either (the awards were won by Life of Pi and Gravity respectively). cfa1e77820
